I like the idea of an independent alternative for our current K-12 education which is costing a fortune ($80Billion/yr K-16) and rated at 45th to 49th worst in the nation.
Presently Home Schools are achieving the highest grades of all alternate K-12 school options (Charter Schools, Magnet Schools, Private, Private Religious and Home Schools) in California. I am not sure how the funding will operate since there is no fixed amount charged by Home Schools which are primarily the parents of the Students.
I am worried that Home Schools will be left out. I am also concerned that State Accreditation will be modified to eliminate or control Religious Private and Home Schools or even eliminate them from the Public Funded Educational Accounts.
In particular I am concerned that the failed curriculum now used in K-12, such as Agenda 21, will be forced on Charter,Religious and Home Schools. There must be solid protections for the curriculum now in place for Religious, Private and Home School alternatives.
It is always good for the spenders of public funds to have some investment in the expenditures, this could apply to K-12 alternatives too.
Our current Public K-12 schools are severely deficient in US History, US Constitution, Civics, Geography, Math and Science. Instead a great deal of effort is spent on political indoctrination that is contrary to all the things that have made the US successful. WE must have clear safeguards against this intrusion into all the alternate school choices.
